Life is tough, love is tough, and fashion is tough. Observe the tough trend: black leather.

Truth is that a fall/winter season doesn’t exist without black. Someone would say its common, its classic, it’s a stereotype. But this season, designers took black and added the edge we all expect to see and observe. Leather was it. A gothic touch is here to awake us, after the romanticism of SS12. Forget just the leather jacket, new season commands leather dresses, skirts, pants, tops and in combination with peplum. In total looks or a fine detail. Oh, heaven…
Proenza Schouler, Versace, Givenchy (yes the leather black cape), Fendi, Alberta Ferretti, Yves Saint Laurent along with the usual lovers of tough leather Alexander Wang, Ann Demeulemeester and Mugler are to name a few designers and houses adopting the trend and serving us with a leather treat.
The surprise came from Valentino, shocking beautiful pieces of leather making it look almost innocent, pairing black leather shorts (giving the look of a skirt) with a see-though white button shirt with bow detail. Chic as hell, would it be inappropriate to say that a tear came down my eye when I first saw it? Well, tough as a word should be re-considered, how about elegant leather?
