The famous celebrity and fashion photographer Mario Testino launched a few days ago the Asociacion Mario Testino (MATE), a non-profit cultural organisation. The MATE is located on the artistic neighbourhood Barranco of Lima city, in Peru, which is the photographer’s hometown, and constitutes his new artistic movement. Housed in a building of the 19th century, Testino supervised the renovation work himself.
His purpose is to promote his country, and Peruvian artists and attract locals and lovers of arts. “After the tremendous success of a show I did at the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI), I said to myself, I am Peruvian, and Peru should own my work. The people should feel that I am part of their legacy. I decided to open a foundation so that my work would be accessible in my country and so that I could help Peruvian artists venture out into the world in some way.” he said about Foundation MATE.
The Associacion opened featuring the exhibition “Todo o Nada” which includes 58 photos of photographer’s editorials for Vogue, V magazine, Allure, The face and Vanity Fair, but also a lot of unpublished pictures.
