If fashion has to be fun, how about the Zoolander in runway? The movie sequel Zoolander 2 has hit the catwalk and created so much noise…Satirizing the fashion industry Zoolander makes his comeback and everyone is speaking about a new phenomenon.

A satire on the fashion industry, the original Zoolander film received generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success. Remember what Tom Ford cooed then? “I think about Derek every time I design a collection.” The sequel, Zoolander No. 2, is scheduled for release this month and the official poster featured film stars Hansel, Derek Zoolander and the newest Penelope Cruz.

The movie itself pokes fun at some of the more indulgent aspects of the fashion world. Stiller and Owen reprise their roles as male supermodels Derek Zoolander and Hansel, with Ferrell as the evil fashion mogul Mugatu and Kristen Wiig as his eccentric girlfriend. They are joined by Penelope Cruz, playing an agent of Interpol’s Global Fashion Division and frustrated former model. The ingenious marketing stunts for the film first began almost a year ago when the duo – Derek and Hansel – closed Valentino Fall 2015 show during Paris Fashion Week in March 2015, marking the start of the fashion house’s involvement in the upcoming fashion comedy. And everyone has started to wonder if it is about a new style icon, a model or what?

To celebrate the premiere of Zoolander 2 in Rome, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson posed as real life mannequins in the windows of the Valentino shop in Rome, with a crowd of people cheering them on from outside the store. As WWD reported Zoolander 2’s costume designer collaborated with the Rome-based fashion house on a several looks for the film.

The Zoolander 2 premiere doubled surprisingly as a fashion show at Lincoln center – the former home of New York Fashion Week. In a medley of designer looks by Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Tommy Hilfiger and more, high-fashion models like Gigi Hadid, Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill, Liu Wen and Irina Shayk walked down a bright purple runway while Skrillex deejayed. But the best surprise had to be the finale, when movie’s A-list stars walked their stuff in character to promote the world premiere of their new film.

At its premiere in London, Stiller orchestrated a selfie of the movie cast with the world’s largest selfie stick, which included Ben Stiller, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Justin Theroux, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell and even Mr. Valentino himself (who also makes a cameo in the film). Mario Testino was also there, stating about style: “You know it’s such a personal thing, style, but it’s somebody who has a personal look at aesthetics and it is to do with how things look.”

After all, Derek Zoolander conquers Vogue as with Penelope Cruz he rocks his first Vogue February cover. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz iconic fashion shoots were created in a loft on a Brooklyn Waterfront. And barely I can remember films featured in Vogue covers…wondering at the end of what is about? Did fashion industry find a great exponent in the big screen beside the red carpet? Or it still makes up the perfect marketing tool?
