Giacomo Favilla & Francensca Lombardi team up for a series of origami portraits.
Text: Yannis Chatzimichalis
The art of origami is based on one single rule. Folding. Performed with square pieces of paper, with the solely restriction of no-cuts, the artist is called to create complicated shapes based on his/her imagination. For Francesca Lombardi, origamist-designer, the source of that inspiration was the animal kingdom. An idea to be completed with the amazing shots of fashion photographer Giacomo Favilla.
Beautiful masks resembling animals from elephants to pelicans are placed upon the face of sat models, covering their facial characteristics entirely, therefore creating a disturbing sense of mystery. The outcome is a merge of humanity and wilderness, a hybrid of natures, in stunning black and white imagery.
This project along with several others from the two contemporary artists are currently on display in The Book Club, London, until the 16th of February.
