When she was just nearly 16, Amethyst Amelia Kelly, aka Iggy Azalea, left her home town, made the big step and went living on America by herself. As she has stated already “I was drawn to America because I felt like an outsider in my own country, I was in love with hip hop, and America is the birthplace of that, so I figured the closer I was to the music, the happier I’d be. I was right”.
Knowing that, her lyrics of her new single Work, “No money, no family/ Sixteen in the middle ofMiami” are clearly autobiographical. Having lived in different cities such as Miami,Florida,Texas andAtlanta, before moving to Los Angeles, Azalea gathered a lot of experiences for her later work.
Her debut album, The New Classic, is to be released this September, with singles like Work, Bounce and Change Your Life. As for her influences, rapper Tupac Shakur and his song Baby Don’t Cry (Keep Ya Head Up II), was a major inspiration for Iggy and her songs.
Gwen Stefani, Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham and nanny Fran from the TV series “The Nanny” are some of her fashion icons, whose style she finds fascinating. Azalea is also a model, having in her cv campaigns with Levi’s and House of Hollands.

The 23-year-old rapper is joking when answer if her looks overshadow her music and experiments a lot until she finds the most preferable sound for her work. From her breakout single Pu$$y to her first studio album, the girl from Australia dazzles the world with her platinum ponytail and her provocative, but at the same time stylized videos.
