This September Shanghai’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA), will present the “Esprit Dior” exhibition. An outstanding selection of more than 100 haute couture dresses, photographs by Patrick Demarchelier and works by Chinese artists will be displayed at MoCA. From the first innovating pieces to Raf Simons’s latest creations, the exhibition will pay tribute to the French couturier Christian Dior and his memorable pieces.
On February 12, 1947, a new talented designer namely Dior makes his debut on the Avenue Montaign salon with a revolutionary collection. Full skirts and wasp-waisted Bar jackets shocked the postwar world and were the perfect reminder of the Belle Époque, a time full of joy and peace. His New Look, as it came to be known, offered to women the ultra feminine style that they needed, after the boxy dresses that used to wear. During the exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy Christian Dior’s creations through the aesthetic of the legendary fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier. The photographs that follow are a small sample of Demarchelier’s work with Dior through the time.
