Schiap is back

Blast from the past and a new start

While the MET Costume Institute has just launched the “Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations”, Tod’s owner Diego Della Valle has decided to reopen Schiap’s boutique this July. The first products (accessories, fragrances, cosmetics and some clothes) will be in stores next February. “The idea with Schiaparelli is to propose the brand with all its modernity, and represent dreams, art and all the most sophisticated things we can do” said Diego Valle.

“This brand doesn’t have to get involved in the frenetic world of numbers, accounts and dimensions, but it just has to express itself at its best”

A true non-comformist personality and the rival of Coco Chanel, the italian designer, considered to be the first who mixed fashion and art. Schiap – for friends- used clothing as a medium to express her unique ideas. Her peak creative period were the 30’s with legendary collections and pieces of clothes, such as the lobster and the skeleton dress, which have influenced all contemporary, eccentric designers.

Elsa Schiaparelli boutique will open their doors this summer at the same address at which the designer once worked- in 21 Place Vendôme in Paris. Though we know brand’s new ambassador, french top-model and actress Farida Khelfa, we will have to wait until October 2012 to find out the name of the creative director. Rumours that the house would have John Galliano as its new design head were refuted.
