Most five-year-olds love playing dress-up by randomly combining clothes to create ultra-eccentric outfits, but Alonso Mateo doesn’t fool around like that. The mini-fashionista sports the most impeccable ensembles, smiles charismatically and poses as nonchalantly as an experienced male model. Virtually every photo of him posted online goes viral on sites like Instagram and Facebook, and his style is an inspiration to fashion-conscious grownups.
As it is been said the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The story began from his mother, Luisa Fernanda Espinosa, a freelance stylist who has contributed to Harper’s Bazaar Mexico and Latin America. She decided to start posting snapshots of his very fashionable son on her own account. Luisa’s account reached over 133,000 followers mainly because of Alonso. The youngest fashion icon became popular via facebook and instagram, and his instagram account has caught the eye of a cool 22,000 followers (before his account was deleted and restarted).
“I love suits, sneakers, and sunglasses”, the boy told the Cut in a recent phone conversation. “I like to dress like my dad, because he has cool suits”. To accomplish that, mom takes him to Kitson Kids, Dior, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Bon Point (“French couture for kids”), Nordstrom, H&M, Little Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and even Target. “As long as it’s nice quality, I’ll take it”, she says.
Many great names in the fashion industry look highly on little Alonso and also celebrity stylist Ugo Mozie has tweeted that we should take notes of him. But before we get ahead of ourselves and claim that Alonso is the best fashion icon of all times, we should question ourselves why we find those photographs so amazing. Little Alonso reminds us that fashion is best when it’s fun. He smiles in photos, pulls silly poses and pats his dog. It reminds us that anyone can be stylish, even in this case a five year old.
