Folklore and traditional costumes in High Fashion
Text: Mariangela Stella
When tradition meets fashion, the history, the culture, the people, the way of life, the beauty of a country inspire fashion designers to create. Far East, and especially Japan, China and Korea gave orientalism. Chinese motifs, shapes, opulent prints and embroideries, highly decorative and luxury fabrics are reflected in the oriental tradition.
A travel into the Balkan world.
Last seasons Balkan was adopted by many designers like Tao, John Galliano and Kenzo. Vivienne Westwood was inspired by Turkish harem pants and John Galliano by Slavic brides. Eastern European heritage revives on catwalks.
Spanish flavor cannot easily pass unnoticed. Charming feminine apparel, passionate society, vivid colors, flowers, lace, bullfight and flamingo dancers make this country unique.
Because folklore is part of our heritage and will always follow us.
