Op Art Madness

When the art movement is transformed into a major fashion trend

 Text:  Alice Joanna Ouli

Space invading shapes, fluorescent colors or no colors, the eye capturing precision of detail, confusion to the max: YES this is Op Art and YES you’ve definitely seen it around! Optical Art is something which many artists devote their artwork to, just like Bridget Riley does or and M.C. Escher did. However, following their lead and feeling intrigued by this rad, psychedelic and definitely unconventional art movement, many fashion designers created garments or even whole collections based on this “illusion factor.” A few of the fashion houses which have embraced the madness of this art movement are Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Mary Katrantzou, Pierre Balmain, Versace, Junya Watanabe, Givenchy and many, many more. Take a look at the tour throughout the various fashion houses portrayed below, enjoy!
