Cut-Outs: From the Swinging 60s to Summer 2013

Cutouts pieces are a major trend this season and have been widely used by designers and high street stores

Cut-out technique had been part of the fashionable teenage style of the Mod World. Designers such as Pierre Cardin, Andre Courrege and Rudi Gernreich created A-line mini dresses or skirts with cutouts, exposing patches of skin at the chest, waist and everywhere else.

The trend re-emerged now, showing off our most flattering body parts: waist, back or shoulders. From delicate cut outs to more obvious ones, the trend reigned on the catwalks, red carpet and street styles, embracing the feminity of woman’s body. Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Cushnie et Ochs, Gucci, Balenciaga, Moschino, Roberto Cavalli, Roland, Herve Leger and many others adopted the trend and presented long or short, minimal or extravagant cuts in their creations.

Red Carpet Cutouts Outfits

V-Neck, geometric or butterfly-shaped cutouts, are all exposing the right amount of skin. Tops, dresses or even bodysuits, can offer the perfect color contrast against nude skin.
