Dior Cruise 2014: Beyond Tradition

Despite the storm clouds and the rainy weather, Raf Simons presented a spectacular show for Dior for this year’s Cruise collection in Monaco, a place that historically echoes of the connection between Princess Grace and Christian Dior. Following the show, Princess Charlene chose to wear a Raf Simon’s creation, contributing to the friendly tradition towards the fashion house.

For the retro-futuristic cruise collection, Simons went for an elegant colour palette. Sheer dresses, boxy jackets and plenty of zipper dresses in blues, yellows and Cadillac pinks. There were also neutral beige and black to balance out the multiple bright colors, as well as metallic accented fabrics which gave a sense of aerodynamism.

“I wanted to dismantle the clichés that are built around a cruise collection and I wanted to introduce new materials and fabrics that i’m not used to work with”, said the designer. “I always thought the lace as something “old”, too romantic and fragile. The challenge was to make it modern, edgy and somewhat futuristic”, he continued.

We could say that he did it.
