Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton are no strangers to art world collaborations.
After partnering with Richard Prince, Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami, Marc Jacobs joined forces with the legendary Japanese polka-dot painter Yayoi Kusama.
The multimedia artist, has been long suffering from a mental illness, which involves seeing patterns of polka dots in her mind, and has been voluntarily institutionalized at a psychiatric hospital in Tokyo since 1977.
Her work includes everything from red and white polka-dot sculptures, phallic symbols, nude performance pieces, and novels such as “Double Suicide at Skuragazuka” .
So, what should we except this time? Regarding these and the 2007 documentary Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, in which Kusama presents a Louis Vuitton purse hand-painted with white dots, obviously a lot of dots on products ranging from bags to clothing to jewelry.
Everything about her, from red bob wigs to big polka dot garments,is spectacular and nothing less than spectacular is what this fashion meets art collection will be! Be patient until the items hit the Louis Vuitton stores in July 2012, with window installations specially designed to mark the collaboration.
