Five years ago, Nathan Williams decided to start recording music at his own because as he says “I started recording music by myself because it was easier”, and he admits that “Now this is my job, and it’s really fucking weird”. A native Californian, Williams is clearly inspired in his music by it, mixing surf rock tunes with sunny melodies and punk.
In 2008 he released his first album Wavves and one year later his second Wavvves. King of the beach, his third studio work, was named one of “The Top 50 Albums of 2010” by Pitchfork and gave the band acclaimed recognition.
Today, their new album Afraid of Heights is being released, as Williams have announced on his twitter page in December 2012. The band has already made a video for their song Sail to the Sun.
Plus, Williams has something stylish to wear in his concerts, since he collaborated with Nike and excitedly created his own shoes, with the name Wavves stitched in the back. The frontman posted photos at his Instagram page.
“The idea behind most of what I do still comes from the same place. It’s about disaffected, Californiateen living. It’s about repetition. It’s about drinking the same beer at the same place with the same people every night and working the same shitty job with the same asshole boss every day. Everyone can relate to that”.
