This season Karl Lagerfeld brought Mary, Queen of Scots to the Chanel catwalk
Text: Mariangela Stella
Mary Stuart, queen of Scotland and queen consort of France, was executed about five centuries ago but now she resurrected on the Chanel catwalk. Lagerfeld’s inspiration was a combination of Scottish history and Chanel heritage.
The models walked in flat boots -which came as a surprise to us all- wearing layers of knits and argyles, well known in the Scottish heritage. We saw modern variations on kilts, tartan trews, flowing scarves, feathered hats and patterned tights, and we really loved them.
For the finale we enjoyed white gowns. All of them were warm with certain elements of inspiration from the Scottish Renaissance-era.
