All the way from London, Delilah brings her own style into the music industry.
Text: Yiota Dendrinou
Born as Pamela Stoecker, 22 years ago in Paris France, Delilah grew up in London and was influenced to become a singer by the death of her stepfather who was a DJ.
She was recruited by Atlantic Records when she was just 17 and for a few years she supported Chase & Status, with whom she co-wrote the song Time.
In 2011, she released her first solo song Go, which was labeled as “genius”, followed by a solo single called Love you so.
Her first album From the Roots up was out in 2012 and Delilah characterized her music “as dark, soulful, melodic pop”. The album was a success in UK, with excellent reviews, marked as ‘Remarkable’ from The Guardian and ‘Stunning’ from Daily Mirror. Breathe, Inside my Love and Shades of grey are some of its singles.
Net-a-porter magazine said that Delilah is ‘The missing link between Sade and The XX’ and they have a point, since she grew up listening to Sade and wrote her album in the same time she was listening to The XX music.
Delilah was, also, a guest blogger in the column Today I’m wearing by vogue.com in November 2012 and in case you are interested, you can check all her outfits here.
Having already fans, such as the musician Plan B and gained acclaim by recognized music critics, it seems that the future for Delilah’s career is even brighter. As she says: “There’s so many people that I’d love to work with. If it’s meant to be, it’ll be”.
