A brand New Year has just started and it is time to celebrate!

2013 is finally here and since we got away with the supposed end of the world, we have the chance to celebrate another New Year’s Day. Of course, as for many other occasions, many songs have been written for that day, too.
Remembering Carrie, in the first Sex and the City movie, running crazily in the streets of Manhattan all the way to Brooklyn, just to make New Year’s Eve with Miranda? Well, the soundtrack playing on the background was the classic Auld Lang Syne, a traditional tune that celebrates the start of the New Year and has been performed by many artists such as Mariah Carey, Jimi Hendrix and The Beach Boys.
Another classic is U2’s song New Year’s Day that dates back in 1983 and Rolling Stone magazine included it on their list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”.
Actors Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are wondering What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?, so they decided to cover the classic song that has been popularized by 50s American group The Orioles and the “Queen of Jazz” Ella Fitzgerald.
Death Cab for Cutie may have a song for Christmas, but they also have another one called The New Year, although they don’t hear so optimistic in it.
Next Year by Two Door Cinema Club isn’t exactly a New Year’s Song, but it is certainly a song to begin 2013 with. Right from their second album Beacon, the indie band delivers a beautiful, worth-listening song.
In between the lines
is the only place you’ll find
what you’re missing
that you didn’t know was there.
Happy New Year to everyone!
