I used to know Solange from a few teen movies in the early 00s, later I lost track of her career, but about a year ago I noticed that everything was different about her. She has replaced the belly tops and flare jeans with more sophisticated outfits, which consisted of bright and bold colored prints and let her hair grow naturally in an Afro look. Now, Solange has also another title that of a style icon.
Her debut album was released nine years ago with the title Solo Star. Five years after, in 2008, her second work Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams was out, an album inspired by 1960s and 1970s songs.
Despite the early of her age, Solange has an eight year old son, Daniel, whom she characterizes as “the greatest unplanned blessing”
In February 2012, she was the guest blogger in vogue.com’s Today I’m wearing and posted one outfit every day. You can check the outfits here.
Today, her ep True is being released and the first single “Losing you” has already been out since October 1st. In the video, Solange is changing many outfits but the most memorable one is her orange tailored suit paired with a green shirt with print. She has also helped the stylist of the video, Ty Hunter, by sending him mood boards.
“He [stylist Ty Hunter] knows how I roll. I’m definitely not the girl you just hand an outfit to”
While she was in Africa shooting “Losing You”, she made a cover for Elle South Africa wearing only local designers.
Solange has been tapped in collaboration by Lady Grey jewelry and curates a line for the new e-commerce site, which consisted of cuffs, necklaces and brass earrings.
As for launching her own clothing line, Solange admits that “Honestly, I would never do anything like that -there are so many talented designers that have such a massive skill and have been working on it for so long”.
A multi-talented girl, Solange has proved to everybody that she is capable of making her own career and dazzles the world of fashion with her unique sense of style. Open to make collaborations with her designer friends, Solange states that: “To work with friends is how I’ve structured my life”. Until then, she continues her life in her fabulous, bright home inBrooklyn.
